Thanksgiving Features Native American Foods

June 112010

Each year, Americans gather with families and friends in the third week of November to celebrate Thanksgiving. The celebration usually includes a meal of turkey, sweet potatoes, squash, cornbread, cranberries, and pumpkin pie. The first Thanksgiving meal in North America is thought to have taken place in sixteen-twenty-one as European settlers gathered with Native Americans to give thanks for a successful fall harvest. Many Americans believe Thanksgiving was created by the early European settlers. American Food in Finland

May 302010

We were out buying groceries when we came across an entire section dedicated to American food… and it reminded me of someone I met from the states who said that they were ‘pissed off’ at how expensive mac and cheese is here, when I was thinking, “why the are you buying mac and cheese in Finland?” But it also reminds me of tourists who travel the world but look for the nearest Macdonald’s to get lunch instead of trying the local cuisine… Its just sad. Why travel if you aren’t willing to experience the culture? Its seems as though they could be anywhere in the world, they aren’t taking in what is unique about their destination.

Bowman emerged as an early public critic of the Strategic Defense Initiative (SDI, also aka “Star Wars”) during the Ronald Reagan administration. In 2000, he campaigned nationwide for the nomination of the Reform Party of the United States of America for President of the United States. In some Reform Party straw polls, he polled better than the ultimate winner of the nomination Pat Buchanan.
