where did american food come from?

like foreign influences. and any foods that are american in origin?

taly, France and Asian cultures have been cooking for hundreds or thousands of years to develop their foods and preparations.
California Cuisine owes much to more traditional styles, is very healthy and involves more reduction sauces and less to cream, butter and olive oil.
Cajun or Creole does owe some or much to the French.
Pan-Asian and the new Nomadic cuisine owes homage to the Orient as well as California.
How about Texas or Southern Barbecue?
Let alone Cal-Mexican!
And WE have only been around for a few hundred years. We are not yet a finished product.
I hope!

  1. america was founded by people from other countries. So they brought over thier seeds for trees that harvest fruits and vegetables. So depending on where in the americas did the settlers go to you have their influences in the food.

  2. Since America was inhabited by American Indians when we came over from England, all our food is ethnic. Somebody once told me that America takes all the great things from other countries and puts them all together and makes them ours. Kinda sounds nice, doesn’t it?

    All over the place…

Hamburgers are originally from Germany, as are french fries (whose name was changed from pomme frits during the second World War) and hot dogs (frankfurters, after the city of Frankfort).

Pizza is also widely considered an "American" food, and it originally came from Italy.

  8. If its American its a Hybrid!

America is made up of people from all over the earth and some times it seems from other planets too!

The label American Food is basically all the stuff that went through a melting pot type process and evolved from its ethnic roots into an American construct.
BTW some innovations did take place in this cultural soup and salad environment as well given the environment and resources!

The Native American culture did provide us with many staples and some recipes as well. It is a shame that this very important culture set and people were persecuted and pushed to extinction through a deliberate process.

Today these nearly extinct cultures are in effect imploding due to easy money and lack of strategic programs to maintain and extend the cultures and the people from with-in and the external society.

    Yea
American is what was yours and has now become OURS,
one way to lookin at it!

There really isn’t a whole lot of "American" food. Most of the food we call our own came from different countries. Hot dogs and sausages originated from Germany. A lot of recipes came from the Indians also. Pizza originated in Italy but America put their own flair to it. Most of our culture is a mixture of different countries. That is why we are known as the "Melting Pot".
