what is the best steak to use to make philly cheese steaks?

I am planning on making philly cheese steaks for my family, what would be the best kind of steak to use? Any tips would be greatly appreciated too!! Thanks!

Here’s a recipe that I’ve tried and it’s fantastic (it uses strip loin – and our family isn’t big on peppers, so we skip that part, but if you like them they sound wonderful).

Courtesy of Bobby Flay and the Food Network:

* 2 to 2 1/2 pound strip loin, trimmed
* Olive oil
* Salt and freshly ground black pepper
* Soft hoagie rolls, split 3/4 open
* Provolone Sauce, recipe follows
* Sauteed Mushrooms, recipe follows
* Caramelized Onions, recipe follows
* Sauteed Peppers, recipe follows

Directions

Place steak in freezer for 30 to 45 minutes; this makes it easier to slice the meat. Remove the meat from the freezer and slice very thinly.

Heat griddle or grill pan over high heat. Brush steak slices with oil and season with salt and pepper. Cook for 45 to 60 seconds per side.

Place several slices of the meat on the bottom half of the roll, spoon some of the cheese sauce over the meat, and top with the mushrooms, onions, and peppers.

Provolone Sauce:
1 tablespoon unsalted butter
1 tablespoon all-purpose flour
2 cups whole milk, heated
1 cup grated aged provolone cheese
1/4 cup grated Parmigiano-Reggiano
1 teaspoon kosher salt
1/4 teaspoon freshly ground black pepper

Melt butter in a medium saucepan over medium heat. Whisk in the flour and cook for 1 minute. Slowly whisk in the warm milk, and cook, whisking constantly until thickened, about 4 to 5 minutes. Remove the mixture from the heat and whisk in the provolone and Parmesan until combined; season with the salt and pepper.

Sauteed Mushrooms:
2 tablespoons olive oil
1 tablespoon unsalted butter
1 1/2 pounds mushrooms (cremini and shiitake), coarsely chopped
3 tablespoons finely chopped fresh parsley leaves
Salt and freshly ground black pepper

Heat oil and butter in a large saute pan over high heat. Add the mushrooms and cook until the mushrooms are golden brown. Stir in the parsley and season with salt and pepper.

Caramelized Onions:
2 tablespoons unsalted butter
1 tablespoons canola oil
3 large Spanish onions, peeled, halved and thinly sliced
1 teaspoon kosher salt
1/4 teaspoon freshly ground black pepper

Heat butter and oil in a large saute pan over medium heat. Add the onions, season with salt and pepper, and cook slowly until golden brown and caramelized, stirring occasionally, approximately 30 to 40 minutes.

Sauteed Peppers:
2 tablespoons olive oil
2 poblano peppers, thinly sliced
2 Cubano peppers, thinly sliced

Salt and freshly ground black pepper

Heat the oil in medium saute pan over high heat. Add the peppers and cook until soft. Season with salt and pepper.

Good luck!!!!!

What ingredient in chinese food could cause vomiting?

October 312009

Me and my husband had chinese food last night. I believe this is the 2nd time i got sick from this recent place. But hes doing fine and not sick at all. So i’m wondering maybe its some sorta ingredient that doesn’t agree with me. Could msg cause vomiting?

Yes, MSG could cause vomiting – if you are sensitive to it, it can cause all kinds of problems with your digestive system. The fact that your husband is not sick makes it much less likely that it is food poisoning. However, if it is MSG sensitivity, all Chinese places should bother you. I would try avoiding this particular place in the future. :D

Where can I find sushi quality fish in Fairfax Virginia?

I’m looking for sushi quality tuna, yellow tail, etc.
Any suggestions?
(I’m not looking for large quantities….if your making sushi for 3, you don’t need three pounds of fresh fish in the fridge when your done)
Alternativly; I’ve seen sushi bars use pre-packaged fish that has been vaccume wrapped–tasted fine. Does anybody know where that is purchased.
Thanks!

Will drinking a soda for breakfast start my metabolism?

I am dieting, but can’t stand the thought of eating when I wake up. I have heard that while in sleep mode your metabolism slows down, and eating breakfast will speed it up again (which is why they say breakfast is the most important meal of the day). If I drink a soda or some juice, will this get my metabolism going, or do I have to actually eat something?

The best way to jumpstart you metabolism is by eating something healthy in the morning! I don’t like to eat when I first wake up either, but a diet soda won’t give you what you are looking for! Try some cut up fruit! Cantelope, grapes, grapefruit is great because it burns calories! Even a Special K bar would be good! You have to give your body fuel to work properly! You don’t have to eat a lot, but give your body something to work with! They say to eat several mini meals throughout the day to keep it going!

I’m looking for ideas to decorate my kitchen in a french bistro style nothing expensive. Any ideas?

I live in an apartment so I can’t do anything major. Some websites with ideas on decor would be great.

Nothin major,,, hmm. You might ask about tiling the floor, and do it in some form of terra cotta that would give the appearnce of an indoor/outdoor cafe.

A very simple, wrought iron,,,etc,,, ice cream parlor type table and chairs, in your choice of color.

Bright colors, or muted is your choice.

Pictures/actual or reproductions of menus, advertisements, etc, dealing with French products. A sign from a famous French bistro or multiples.

Book covers, playbill booklets, theater signs, etc. etc etc.

Shelves above eye level filled with STUFF that relates to your theme.

I want to start a delivery business but want to know: Where do i start?

I want to start a business in a small, yet fast growing, town in Northern Virginia. Food delivery and such from places that do not already deliver. I’d also be open to running errands like picking up dry cleaning, running to the grocery store etc. The drivers would drive their own vehicles. Where do I start? How much would it cost to start up? What licenses/permits would I need?

Best answer to the most information given in plain english. :) Thanks!

You should start a leasing business. Not much capital is required at all. You sign the contract with the pizza places or laundry or whom ever you want to work with to offer your delivery services and buy the cars. Make the contract for 2- 3 years. Buying cars does not require any capital as you can finance them. With the contracts from big companies you can even get more than a 1000 cars financed without any problem.

What kinds of American food products are not sold in the UK?

October 312009

I’m sending my friend in England a gift basket of american food products that he misses: such as Twinkies, Mountain Dew, and Lucky Charms.

I can’t understand why he likes them, but what other kinds of food products are popular in America, but not sold in the UK?

THANKS!

not sure about the UK but my friend from Scotland doesn’t know what grits are! LOL I told him he wasn’t missing anything! :-P
