How much should I take out in taxes from my paycheck if I am self employed making 400.00 a week?

I am married and have one child. I live in Maryland so I have been told to take out 5% for state But I don’t know what to take out for federal. Any help is appreciated.

No only do you have to take the state and federal tax out, but you must deposit it quarterly I believe.. if you wait until tax time, you will have a penalty. I am not up to date on ss but I am sure if you want to be covered, you should also deduct that and pay it.
There are charts available to tell you exactly how much to deduct for each tax. available from your local tax office.

Where can I find a steak in the grocery store to cook like the steak found at Benihana’s?

I printed the recipe from benihana’s website so that I can cook the hibachi or regular steak, the problem is there are so many different kinds of steak out there I don’t know which one to buy. Does anyone have some guidance on this?

If you have gone to the trouble of visiting their website I find it odd they didn’t include the cut of steak in the recipe.

Chinese Food?

September 302009

I had a friend go to China, and she said the cooking there is completely differnt then Chinese places in the states. Do you think our chinese food is like fast food to them?
While optimistic p has obviously done some research, FYI, just put the link to the site, not the entire contents in the answer.

I am Chinese and I am living in the states. I can tell you that the Chinese food, especially those cooked at those take-out places, like my father said, is lousy. So, I would not even say that it is like fast food; at least, fast food is still food. If you were to go to Chinatown, you can something more authentic than those you get in those Chinese take-out places.

I remember taking my mother to a Chinese take-out place for the first time. To this day, my mother still remembers that wonton soup. The wontons were gigantic and the dough was super thick. Nobody would even waste money on buying these wontons if they were being sold in China or Hong Kong, which is where I am originally from. And the other thing is, the Egg Foo Young’s are weird. We have Egg Foo Young in Hong Kong but the Egg Foo Young over there is like, imagine scramble egg in some kind of egg sauce; so, it is fluffy and kind of watery. But the Egg Foo Young’s in the states are like deep fried omelets. I can keep going on and on about how the Chinese places in the states have butchered the authentic delicious Chinese dishes. What I want to say is, the Chinese food here in the states is greatly Americanized to fit the Americans’ taste buds.

Oh by the way, in case some of you may not know, Fortune Cookie is not a Chinese food. I have never had a Fortune Cookie before I came to the states.

What is a decent red wine to serve with Italian food?

September 302009

I’m having guests for dinner on Sunday which is Easter. Since some of them are Jewish, I decided that going Italian is the best food choice since ham is the traditional Easter meal. But I need advice on wine.
I’m planning to serve chicken parmagiana and stuffed manicotti.

Since you don’t say what you’re having, a good Sangiovese would be good. It’s not too heavy and it pairs well with most foods.
Sangiovese is the base grape for Chianti and there are some really good ones. If you want a domestic, try the Andretti. Of course Mario, being born in Italy, is true to his roots and has produced a fantastic wine.
Italy also produces some great ones sold as a varietal, and also as Chianti. I would stay away from those "cute" bottles in the wicker wraps. The wines aren’t that great and the decoration is why people by the bottle, not the wine.

I’m a big fan of sushi. My current favorite is Tokyo sushi in Troy. A friend of mine recommended Volcano Sushi in Utica. Could anyone recommend a great Sushi restaurant for me?

Toyko Sushi and Grill in Royal Oak is one of the best I’ve been to in Michigan.

What bread can I make for breakfast without an oven or toaster oven?

I’d like a bread to go with a breakfast I’m making. My oven won’t be fixed for a week and I don’t own a toaster. Is there a breakfast bread I can make/prepare without either of these? All I can think of is toast and biscuits that require a toaster and/or an oven. I’m making a typical American breakfast, if it matters, scrambled eggs and bacon like.

Thanks so much!

You can toast it in a pan like you would make a grilled cheese. Butter it first, then put it in the pan for a few minutes, turn, repeat.

Would you go to a to a tea house/American bistro type Restaurant?

I am in the R/D part of opening a restaurant. I am thinking of a tea house with a wide varieity of teas. Also it will be an american style bistro serving breakfast and lunch. The menu would consist of common items but with a flair. Like an eggs beneidict on grilled polenta rounds with panchetta and topped with a sundried tomatoe holindaise. Or grilled duck breast sub on onion and walnut roll. Then after lunch service is done would stay open for 1to 2 hours for tea. having several types of loose tea (15) you would be able to order tea for one or for two or three or what ever and it would include Tea, pastrys, tea sandwiches, and assorted fruits for the table. Nice and relaxed but not stuffy like an English tea service, more American. If this was in your town or nieghborhood would you go once, twice, or on a regular bases.

I would LOVE to have a tea house near me. In fact I had considered opening one myself! Please do not use tea bag teas though…those are a dreadful imitation of real tea. You can speak to www.adagio.com they sell tea to tea houses in bulk.

How close to delivery did your baby drop with second pregnancy?

September 302009

Posted in delivery | 2 Comments »

I’m 36 weeks and 4 days pregnant. I was at my midwife two weeks ago and the baby was measuring 35cm. Yesterday at my appointment she was measuring 33cm. My midwife explained that this means the baby has dropped lower into my pelvis. I’ve always heard that second babies drop closer to delivery.

im 38 weeks 4 days pregnant – i have no idea how close to delivery they drop but my baby isnt fully engaged either – the baby is 3/5ths engaged and has been for a fair few weeks now – my midwife told me they dont need to "drop" until you’re actually in labour with your second :) hope this helps

How much should you tip a Chinese food delivery man in NYC?

September 302009

I usually order about $15 worth of food at night. Delivery guy use a bicycle, not a car. I also wonder if delivery man also get money from restaurant too.
I meant any Delivery man of chinese food restaurant.

I tip depending on how far he has to go, and what the weather is like.

Also – I live up three flights of stairs, so I add a little extra for that too.

Round up the change from the bill and then add $2 – $3.

I generally don’t tip on percentage of bill because it doesn’t always have any relation to the delivery. But if I had a really big order and there were multiple bags, I would probably add another dollar for that.

Where is the best place to buy American food in Germany?

September 302009

I have a friend in Germany, and I was wondering if there were any good places to buy American food there? I know it´s hard to find stuff that has the same flavor, or even the same look, as american food, because I´m in Switzerland and it´s pretty hard here, too. Does anyone know?

I have only found original American products at one place in Germany, in the Berlin dept. store KaDeWe. It was limited to stuff like maple syrup, barbecue sauces, apple chips, candy, and American sodas, like vanilla cream soda, however.
