What is it about Chinese food that keeps you hungry?

March 42010

I love to eat at my local Chinese restaurant, but I always have to get a takeout plate afterwards cause i’m starving about an hour later. Is there somthing in the food?

you are misinterperating thirst for hunger

shinese food actually makes you thirsty

due to the common meat tenderizer MSG as stated before

but it isnt hunger and you should drink water instead of eat more

also find a better Chinese Restaurant it may cost you lil more to eat but it will be a lot healthier for you and you wont feel thirsty afterwords

actually it might be cheaper cause you wont have to order more food an hour later

Why is American-Italian food so revolting compared to the food in Italy?

March 42010

Why do we smoother everything in tomato sauce here and call it Italian? It all tastes the same. Where is the subtlety, the complexity you get in the cooking in Italy? Even something as simple and delicious as pizza – we make it into this doughy thing, topped with cheap cheese. Why must we make all our food as if we are cooking for children?
This question was not posed to dis american food. I think American food is great but more on a regional, local level.

To be honest with any other culture than american , the food is adjusted to satisfy the american society. The foods rarely taste like the original culture that is is copied from

Anyone have a great recipe for sushi rice? What is the best rice to use?

March 42010

The best nori to use? I want to make vegetarian sushi. I have the mat and materials, but need to purchase the ingredients. I will be making the rice in a rice cooker and need to know the best way to prepare it. Thanks for all answers.

You’ll need- Jasmine Rice (available at asian delicacy store or any store, really) Rice Vinegar (at asian delicacy store) sushi wrapping paper (at asian delicacy store… Don’t know the name! but it has a see-through front and white and black writing in the front.. should cost about $1.50-ish)

I have been using Jasmine Rice for my sushi all my life, and it works great. Any brand of jasmine rice would be find.. just jasmine rice in general.

What you do is you cook the rice in the rice cooker, 5 cups=water line should be at the 5 on the rice pot, let the rice cool by just opening the top of the rice cooker. Scoop the desired amount of rice that you’ll be using for the whole sushi recipe, and take Rice Vinegar (available in asian delicacy stores) and pour a reasonable amount on the rice. Just enough so that the rice will have a slight taste of it (do a taste test!) but will not be too overwhelming for you.. or anyone else.

Good luck!

Any good breakfast or lunch spots in San Francisco during the week for a birthday?

March 42010

Hello,

I live in San Francisco. I am taking the day off for my husband’s birthday, it’s on a Wednesday. We are having a party for him that night, but I want to take him somewhere really fancy for breakfast or lunch that day, to kick off the birthday celebration. Any nice places you could recommend during the work week for breakfast or lunch, where the food is good and he will be impressed?

A really sweet breakfast/brunch type place is at Stacks in Burlingame. Since you’d be going on a Wednesday, I don’t think you’d have to wait long for a table. It is popular so if you are going for lunch, you will probably have a bit of a wait.

Crustacean’s is a really nice place to go. They have the best garlic noodles there. (not sure about lunch…they used to be open for lunch but I’m not sure now)

http://bobs-steakandchop.com/index.html at The Omni Hotel

http://www.thehse.com/ North Beach

http://www.hillstone.com/#/restaurants/houstons/ Embarcadero

The Rotunda at Neiman Marcus (sorry couldn’t get the link to work)

Hope this helps. I know more places but they are only open for dinner. The ones I gave you links for are all open for lunch. All have good food too. If you don’t like these or they’re not your hubby’s taste, the best advice that I can give you is to pick areas like the popular tourist spots like the Fisherman’s Wharf and the Financial District for those areas are more likely to have the fancy dining at lunch. Enjoy your day off! =P

What is a bistro? what type of ppl go there? is it cool?

expensive?
how old you have to be?
what you do there?
simple questions easy points ^^
i will give ten points like always ^^

A bistro is a small locally owned cafe type restuarant, sometimes having outdoor seating and that serves coffee and specializes in the lunch menu with sandwiches, soups, ect. Younger people usually frequent these places to catch up, talk and hang out. They are a very chill place to grab a bite to eat, some coffee and just hang out! :) Hope this helps!

What is the customery charge for pickup and delivery?

March 42010

I own a Laser Welding business and weld on prodution Tooling for the injection molding industry. customers appreciate the fact that I provide a pickup and delivery service for them. what would be a fair charge for this service? I am the sole owenr/driver/welder.

You need to charge enought to cover your travel expenses and time. There are two ways you can do it.

One is to charge a lump sum and include it in the price of the job, either as part of the job or as a separate line item.

The other is to charge a lump sum and bill it separate from your job invoice (more bookkeeping that it’s worth).

You don’t say how big an area you serve, or how big your jobs are. If your jobs are small enough to be carried in a pick up, I would think that $1.50 per mile, up to 25 miles one way, with a minimu charge of $50.00 would be in line. For instance, if your pick up is 25 miles, one way, from your shop – 25 miles x 2 x $1.50 = $75.00. If the milage is such that it yields less that $50.00, then charge the minimum.

The regular pick up and delivery services set their rates according to zones that are generally 5 miles in diameter.
Zone A extends 5 miles from the center of operations, Zone B is from 5 to 10 miles, and so on.

Hope this helps.

how does colombian food differ from american food? how is it similar?

March 42010

especially what would be found on a menu in a colombian restaurant that is different from what would be in an american one. what similarities would there be. Gracias!

No matter what is on the menu they always have the same things in 90% of Colombian and Ecuadorian restaurants…

1.)Bifsteak (skinny steak often breaded and served with lime
2.)Fish (cooked same way) served with lime
3.) Rotisserie Chicken (free run and good!)
4.)Arroz con Pollo (made all kinds of ways ie mama’s style)

All of the above are served with a piece of boiled corn, a piece of yucca, piece of potato, smattering of lettuce with a wedge of avocado and tomato if you’re lucky…These basic meals are good and cheap and everywhere.

Other than that most of the stuff on the menus will be "hoy dia – no hay!" …that is "we’re out of it today"…As an American, it drove me crazy for a while, I mean, why have these long menus but serve the same things day after day? Ah well, you get used to it. Of course the expensive restaurants will have everything…I loved the variety of ceviches—Fish and shellfish "cocktail" cooked in lime w/ peppers and onions! And the LOBSTER cheap and plentiful on the coasts!

I forgot… they have the most AMAZING fresh soups…MY GOD!!! The variety boggles the mind…Its a sad thing that our cafes don’t spend the time on great soups.

Take a look at my girlfriend
She’s the only one I got
Not much of a Girlfriend
Never seem to get a lot
.Take a jumbo cross the water
Like to see America
See the girls in California
I’m hoping it’s going to come true
But there`s not a lot I can do

Coult we have kippers for breakfast
Mummy dear Mummy dear
They got to have ´em in Texas
´Cos everyone`s a millionaire
I’m a winner I’m a sinner
Do you want my autograph
I’m a loser what a joker
I’m playing my jokes upon you
While there`s nothing better to do

Don’t you look at my girlfriend
She’s the only one I got
Not much of a girlfriend
Never seem to get a lot
Take a jumbo cross the water
Like to see America
See the girls in California
I’m hoping it’s going to come true
But there`s not a lot I can do
